Exams & Cleanings

Having dental exams and professional cleanings every six months is incredibly important. In fact, it is probably the best way to ensure that you have a healthy smile for years to come. Of course, brushing your teeth and flossing every day is absolutely essential, but trained professionals can help get rid of plaque and tartar that you simply can’t remove at home. Not only can we provide deep cleanings that leave your mouth feeling fresh and healthy, but we can also closely examine your teeth and gums to make sure there aren’t any issues developing. Early detection is important. The quicker we catch something, the simpler (and less costly) the solution will be.

Oral Cancer Screenings

When you visit us for a checkup, we will also conduct a non-invasive oral cancer screening. The disease can affect anyone, regardless of age or overall health, so it is important to be regularly on the lookout for early signs. We examine your mouth for lesions, lumps, sores, and other abnormalities. It is also important for you to tell us if you’ve noticed anything out of the ordinary. These can include persistent throat pain, a change in your voice, sudden weight loss, or any other irregularities. If we do happen to find something, we will explain the situation, and we will suggest the appropriate next steps.

Periodontal Care

Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums, with the most common type being gingivitis. Even if you brush and floss thoroughly and regularly, bacteria can still build up and seep into and inflame your gums. Gum disease is typically caused by a buildup of plaque and tartar, so while brushing certainly helps, sometimes it just isn’t enough. If gum disease does develop, we can help combat it with our periodontal care. We offer procedures such as scaling and root planing to clean your gums and teeth thoroughly beneath the gumline, which removes built-up bacteria and leaves your mouth feeling fresh and healthy. Unhealthy gums can also cause other issues with your overall health, so it is important to make sure they are in great condition.

TMJ & Bruxism

Bruxism and TMJ Disorder are two often-connected conditions that affect your jaw and teeth. Bruxism is another name for teeth grinding. TMJ disorder, or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, is caused by a misalignment of the jaw joints that connect your jaw and skull. These particular joints can become unbalanced and cause jaw misalignment. TMJ frequently leads to bruxism and vice versa. The most common symptoms of bruxism are sensitive teeth, diminished tooth enamel, a sore jaw, chipped teeth, and persistent headaches. TMJ disorder has similar symptoms that include headaches, earaches, and jaw aches. If left untreated, some of these symptoms can result in you needing restorative care. If we determine that you do suffer from either of these conditions, we will can create a custom oral appliance to help your jaw rest comfortably and provide a solution to both conditions.
